Hourly Financial Planning
Hourly financial
planning,
a type of fee-only financial planning, is a way to obtain financial planning services or investment advice without
paying significant
retainer or "asset under management" fees.
An hourly financial planner might charge $200 to
$350 an hour times a range of 15 to 25
billable hours to produce a financial plan. By contrast, a planner
charging "asset under management" fees might charge
0.8% to 1.5%
times a $2,000,000 portfolio, which is $16,000 to $30,000 a year.
Regardless of
whether you get hourly financial planning from Mayflower Capital or "asset under management" service by other fee-only planners
either way you will have avoided commission based financial planning
which has potential conflicts of interest because it is based on
salespeople seeking to meet sales goals to push "products" onto their
clients. Hourly financial planning or hourly investment advising is
rarely available in the financial
planning industry. Most fee-only
planners work by charging
significant retainer or "asset under
management" fees. It is possible
that there maybe only a few hundred hourly financial planners or hourly
investment advisors in the
U.S., although
we do not have a way to verify that.
